CMV Drivers: The Unsung Heroes of America

The world has become an increasingly complex, unpredictable place over the last six months. The coronavirus that continues to disrupt daily life around the world is putting businesses and individuals in tough circumstances, and life is still yet to return to normal.

One of the main concerns of the last few months was the logistics of getting crucial supplies to those in need around the country. And when things began to look bleak, it was commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers that stepped up, and put their own health at risk to ensure the safety of others. The last few months have put in perspective how much CMV drivers do for people around the country. This is just one of the reasons we introduced the Clearinghouse Navigator, in order to help keep CMV drivers safe on the roads.

CMV Drivers put Themselves at Risk

It's no mystery that truck drivers often face long hours on the clock. But the job itself is also full of risks for CMV operators. An article written by the FMCSA really puts into perspective how dangerous life can be on the road. One statistic that stands out in the text is that there were, “5,005 lives lost in 4,455 crashes involving large trucks or buses,” this means accidents involving larger vehicles have a shockingly high fatality rate.

CMV drivers can also have shifts of up to 15 hours. While there are limitations put in place by the FMCSA regarding how long CMV drivers can operate their vehicles, both daily and weekly, the hours can still be strenuous, and the work dangerous.

Delivering Items Safely, Securely, and Efficiently

It’s almost impossible to overstate how important CMV drivers have become to our economy. There are 3.5 million CMV professionals in the United States that ensure items, products, and deliveries show up on time at the location they’re intended for. If it weren’t for these individuals, businesses would come to a halt, and people wouldn’t have access to products they sometimes desperately need.

While the value these operators present to all of us is relatively clearcut, they often don’t seem to receive the praise that they deserve. That’s why our team at Clearinghouse Navigator wants to take a moment to say, “Thank You!”

How the Clearinghouse Navigator is Meant to Help CMV Operators

We’ve written blogs previously regarding who the new FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is designed to help. In truth, the new rule is designed to keep everyone who shares the highways safe. This very much includes all CMV operators, who spend so much of their time on the road.

The Clearinghouse Navigator, which is filled with eLearning opportunities and other resources to help CMV drivers and employers learn the new FMCSA rule, is meant to help ensure commercial vehicle drivers are capable of effectively following the rule. If the Clearinghouse is utilized correctly, it will help CMV drivers stay safe and do their jobs as effectively as possible. That is what the Clearinghouse Navigator is designed to do.

CMV drivers do so much for our towns, cities, and communities that goes unheralded. That’s why our team at Clearinghouse Navigator is dedicated to keeping them safe, and offering them all the resources possible in order to effectively follow the new FMCSA rule.
